I hate my period. Period!
Why is it that your period always comes at the worst possible time? Like on a hot first date or the first day at the beach? Before you know it, you’re suffering from bad pimples, have the worst cramps or just feel sluggish. Here’s how to stop your period from stampeding all over your plans.
Feel more energetic
So you feel tired, right? Well try eating a bit more dairy and leafy greens to boost your energy levels. Also make sure you drink loads of water. Bloating can also make you feel sluggish - nothing worse than when you’re completely bloated in your bikini! Try avoiding salt when you’ve got your period as it prevents absorption of minerals and causes bloating. Foods that are packed with magnesium, such as nuts and beans, also do the trick to help ease things out.
Pain, go away!
If you’ve ever experienced really painful cramps, you’ll know that it can zap your energy. But if you can’t have a lie-in day, have a really hot bath or place a heating pad on the painful area, as both can soothe the pain. Exercise, such as Pilates or Yoga, can also help. So why not give those classes a try? You can also try taking a painkiller. But remember: if those pains are so extreme that nothing works, consult with your doc.
Pimple drama
As if the pain and bloating wasn’t enough, you also have a breakout! Turns out there’s an actual name for these zits: menstrual cycle pimples. During your period your hormones are unbalanced, leading to all these skin nasties. So, it’s important to look after your skin – don’t forget to cleanse, tone and moisturise twice daily! Eat healthy: include lots of fruits and vegetables in your diet; drink lots of water; eat whole grains; and eat more fish. This can really help to clear up your skin. Make it a lifestyle change so you prevent those pimples from cropping up again next month.
