Study 101

There’s nothing worse than knowing a test’s coming up but you can’t get into the mood to study. Or you feel you’re just swamped with a whole lot of work that you can’t seem to get through. Stop and take a deep breath. Done? Good. Now read on for some of our study tips to get you sorted:

Prep for it

What you do before hitting the books is important coz it puts you in the right frame of mind to tackle the workload. Do something that makes you feel chilled but not tired – lots of exercise is best done as a release after an intense study period, then. Relax and unwind for a bit – take a walk outside or play with your dogs, for instance. Now you’ll feel ready to get some studying done.

Take regular breaks

You can’t put hours into your work – you need regular breaks to maintain focus and help you remember the work. If you don’t take regular breaks you’ll feel swamped with way too much information. Ensure you break so you can have a snack, text your friend or listen to some music to take your mind off things.

Make it visual

The best way to remember things is to make studying fun. Draw mind maps, write your study notes in vibrant colours and find fun ways to remember things. For instance, turn that long list into lyrics to your favourite song or study out loud to help you absorb more info. Do whatever works for you – remember everyone’s brain is different when it comes to studying effectively so experiment to find your study style.

Get a study group

One of the best ways to get through boring work is to get your mates in on it. Why not organise a study group so you and your mates can all help each other with studying for those miff tests? But remember to choose friends who are as determined to study as you are – the last thing you need is added stress of distractions.
